THE JOURNAL RESTAURANT OF THE YEAR 2011/12.
Situated on The Weir in Hessle, East Yorkshire, this grade 2 listed,
Georgian town house has been lovingly updated to create a unique and
welcoming restaurant. Richard and Lindsey opened Artisan in December
2004 to critical acclaim. At present, Artisan is one of the highest
guide rated restaurants in Yorkshire, and has been voted a top 100 UK
restaurant and a top 40 UK restaurant outside of London.
Artisan is also listed in both the Michelin and Good Food Guides. Awards
include The Journal Restaurant of the Year 2005/06, The Yorkshire Life
Restaurant of the Year 2008/09 and the Yorkshire Tourism award for Best
Restaurant 2010, Good Food Guide Restaurant of the Year 2011, for the
North East of England.
Richard works single handedly, producing lovingly prepared food. The
food at Artisan is classical in style with a unique and changeable set
gourmet menu. Where possible all dietary requirements are catered for.
Front of house is run by Richard's wife, Lindsey, who has been noted
for her excellent service, creating a very personal and welcoming atmosphere.
